Our selection of coffee tables with storage will open up a world of opportunities for organizing your living space more efficiently. Coffee tables are great: they bring the whole living room interior together, they look good, but – unless they have some kind of storage, they occupy a lot of space without doing anything for that clutter problem you've been meaning to resolve.

The best coffee tables at least have a shelf or a magazine rack, but some of the options in this selection have so much storage that they could well replace your drawer chest or linen cupboard.

We've found some pieces that go over and above the duties, they're set out for. Discover rotatable tops, charming wicker basket drawers, luxury lift-top models, and lots to hide remote, wires, phone chargers and the rest.

These living room coffee tables with storage are a stand-out feature in themselves and their multifunctional purpose will save you spending on additional furniture that'll take up floor space.

What is the best type of coffee table with storage?

'Work your coffee table extra hard with a two-tiered design,' advises Joanne Quinn, senior interior designer, LuxDeco (opens in new tab).

'Offering additional storage, these are a smart addition for smaller spaces or rooms which don’t have lots of existing storage. (And the great thing is that anything your store in them feels stylishly considered.) Their underneath shelf doubles the surface area of your piece allowing you to display more of your decor items.'

Layer yours up with inspiring coffee table books and chic storage boxes for your not-so-chic essentials – remote controls, matches, etc.'

'[Additionally], coffee tables with trays are the equivalent of dresses with pockets – they’re not essential but they sure do thrill us when we see one.'

'We love the design for its ingenious combination of two made-for-each-other companions and for its encouragement to keep things tidy. Moveable, castor-based designs offer a relaxed, art studio style whilst nailhead trim and shagreen textures can reinvent the design as a smart solution.'

Coffee tables with storage: how to choose the best one

There are several things to consider with storage coffee tables to make sure you're getting the most out of them.

Firstly, consider the overall size of the item. If it's just too big for your room you won't enjoy using it, and the storage won't redeem it. In a very small space, go for a smaller item – you'll be surprised how even a small ottoman or storage coffee table will help keep things tidier.

Next, think about the kind of storage you would prefer. Do you want open shelving, drawers, or perhaps a combination of the two? Some coffee tables also have cabinet space, magazine racks or holding compartments, or even dedicated book storage. If your coffee table has open storage, you'll have to make a bit more of an effort at keeping the contents neatly stacked. The joy of coffee tables with concealed storage is that you can just throw stuff in there, but they do tend to be bulkier.

Finally, if you want a really hardworking piece, consider getting a lift-top coffee table with storage – you'll be able to work at yours as well as store things inside it.
